Meet at our guide on the square next to the Palace of Tears, Reichstagufer 17, 10117 Berlin.
Stroll down Berlin’s royal boulevard, Unter den Linden, and retrace the city’s evolution from a fishing village into the capital of Prussia, a centre of the Enlightenment under Frederick the Great, the scene of occupation by Napoleon, and the capital of Bismarck’s German empire.
Delve deep into the history of Berlin from the time of the Teutonic Knights through to its key role in the major events of the twentieth century, as capital of the Nazi Third Reich, as the divided capital of the Cold War, and as the modern capital of a unified Germany in the new Europe!
You’ll see Goering’s former Luftwaffe HQ and the site of Himmler’s former SS & Gestapo HQ at the Topography of Terror. Walk through the Memorial for the murdered Jews of Europe and over the site of Hitler’s Bunker. Enter the moving Memorial Dedicated to the Victims of War and Tyranny. Go to the location where Nazi’s burned books in the infamous 1933 book-burning. See a section of the Berlin Wall. Spend time at Checkpoint Charlie, the place where an American-Soviet standoff took place and WWIII felt like an imminent threat. See one of the only locations where the Berlin Wall still stands on it’s original location.
Learn about the tumultuous years of the Reichstag building- it’s history from the German Empire, the failed democracy of the Weimar Republic, the rise of the Nazi’s in 1933, how it was trapped at the Berlin Wall during the Cold War years and how it symbolizes the transparency of German democracy today.
This tour finishes with a flourish at the historic and picturesque Pariser Platz, right in front of the beautiful Brandenburg Gate and close to the famous Hotel Adlon.
