  • Visit multiple neighbourhoods that each show a different side of development and gentrification of the city

Starting Point

Meet at our guide on the square next to the Palace of Tears, Reichstagufer 17, 10117 Berlin.

Description

How did this once run-down and divided city become the multifaceted and thriving capital of cool it is today? Go beyond the tourist trail and discover Berlin’s more alternative neighbourhoods. This tour chronicles the political, social and cultural upheavals of the last thirty years in a bid to understand what makes Berlin so unique.

Explore both sides of a city where gentrification is rife, yet street art and alternative culture continue to thrive. Discover the inner courtyards of Mitte, and wander through the vibrant districts of artsy Friedrichshain and bohemian Kreuzberg, taking in the massive creative compound of RAW Gelände as well as the iconic murals of the East Side Gallery.

Our tour ends by crossing over Oberbaum Bridge, where East meets West, into the vibrant heart of multi-kulti Berlin. Learn about how all of the local cultures come together to create Berlin as we know it today.

Finishing Point

Schlesisches Tor, Kreuzberg.

Insider Reviews

The Best Walking Tour!

This tour is the best way to know the centre of Berlin and it history: 3 hours walking for the main historical places. The guide was amazing! He knows a lot about the city history and he is super didatic, having the ability to talk about all tragic facts that happen in a very soft and entertaining way.

Walking tour with Martin

We loved the walking tour with our guide He knows so much about the city and its history. Not only that, he answered all the questions Everything went so well, that we repeated with him the following day and did the holocaust camp tour. Both excursions were great!!

A close up look at modern-day Berlin

I have been with Insider Tour's walking tours before and found them excellent. This one was right up to standard with a very good guide. We really got to see parts of the city that would have taken months to discover on our own and heard about the political and social changes that have created this city. This tour was far more than just sightseeing. It was educational and enjoyable and shows why Berlin is the 'Capital of Cool'.

4 amazing Neighbourhoods

This was a excellent tour. Our guide was very knowledgeable and thoughtful. He gave excellent information on the area we were in and gave us time to take photos.

Unique experience.

ook the Modern Berlin tour with our guide. He showed us the really cool corners of Berlin and how they have evolved in the last ~40 years. Lots of insights on contemporary Berlin, about migration, "development", gentrification, and more. This was a very unique experience compared to other tours which are very history oriented. Highly recommended,

Guide was fabulous

Outstanding tour - Berlin Today with an outstanding tour guide. The tour was extraordinarily informative with our guides knowledge and insights a true reflection of his love of the city and passion for the job. This is a perspective of Berlin that we highly recommend to anyone wanting more than just a history tour. Such a great day. Daniel and Suzanne.
