Experience Berlin on our award-winning tour with someone who has a genuine passion for the city and its history. Whether you have opted for a tour format of two, three, four, six or eight hours, your expert guide will meet you at your hotel. Your unique private walking tour through the streets of Berlin will then begin!

As your specialist guide leads you along the historic Unter den Linden, they will chart the city’s growth in influence and stature over the centuries. After the time of the Teutonic Knights, when the neighbouring towns of Cölln and Berlin were founded on opposite sides of the River Spree, Berlin became the world-class capital city of the Kingdom of Prussia; it was a centre of the Enlightenment during the reign of Frederick the Great, before being occupied by Napoleon. Later, under the rule of Otto von Bismarck, it was the capital of the German Empire.

To give you a succinct yet comprehensive overview of the city’s history, this highly rated tour will take in all the main sites, from the Berlin Wall to the Brandenburg Gate, from the site of Hitler’s bunker to the Reichstag parliament building and much, much more.

You will discover the poignant memorial on Bebelplatz that serves as a reminder that in 1933, on this very spot, Nazi supporters burned more than 20,000 books that had been blacklisted for being “un-German”. As you walk across the final battlefield of WWII, your guide will explore with you how the peculiar events surrounding the Reichstag fire facilitated the Nazis’ rise to power.

At the site of Hitler’s bunker, you will hear an in-depth account of the claustrophobic last days spent inside this underground shelter before Hitler’s suicide, and learn about the fate of his remains and what became of the bunker itself.

Not only does this tour give you the chance to explore the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe, you will also get the inside story behind the great controversy surrounding it.

Your guide will take you to see one of the longest remaining stretches of the Berlin Wall and share with you the intriguing history behind its construction and how it went up overnight, as well as tragic stories of the impact on Berliners, who woke up the next morning to a divided city.

You will visit the fabled locations where President Ronald Reagan spoke the famous words “Mr Gorbachev, tear down this wall!” and where President John F. Kennedy came up against the reality of the Iron Curtain before delivering his ground-breaking speech. Pass through Checkpoint Charlie, a Cold War crossing point where the East German secret police and the CIA spied on each other and where heroic and tragic escape attempts were made.

Visit Berlin’s spectacular new government quarter and get a feel for the contemporary face of the city, its development since the fall of the Wall, and its future direction.

At the conclusion of your tour, your Insider guide will happily point you in the direction of your next destination or advise you on how to make the most of your time in Berlin.

Insider Reviews

We booked a 4 hour private tour...

We booked a 4 hour private tour of the sights in Berlin and we were lucky enough to have Sara as our guide. From the moment the tour started Sara was eager to share her knowledge and passion for the city. She was extremely professional and the guide she provided, including many facts we did not know ourselves, were passionately delivered from a person who clearly loves what she does. The 4 hours flew by and we saw every sight we hoped to because of our guide. Claire P. Oct. '23

Brilliant!

With John on communication and the lovely Anika on tour - from start to finish, brilliant experience. Wouldn’t hesitate to book another tour when I next visit Berlin - I’ve got my eye on the street art one. Thank you so much! Deeps Oct. '23

Great tour guide of Berlin.

Paul was a great tour guide of Berlin! His knowledge of the history was wonderful and so interesting. He was very personable, kind, and modified the tour to meet our needs. We were in town running the Berlin Marathon and had to limit our walking. That morning he changed the plan so we were able to see the sights, learn the historical context and not tire our legs out. We enjoyed our day and would highly recommend Paul as your guide. Mona A. Sept. '23

Entrenched in history.

Georgia, our guide, was great. She provided many historical insights every step of the way that I felt like I was watching history before my eyes. Malathy July '23

Great way to get to know Berlin's fascinating and complex history and see beautiful architechture.

So glad we did this tour as soon as we arrived in Berlin for the first time with our family of 5 including 3 teenagers. Maria was knowledgeable and personable and knew her stuff. Highly recommend Maria and this tour. Very few tourists in Berlin right now so we had the main sites to ourselves. We loved Berlin. Maria met us at our hotel (Regent Hotel) so it was easy to walk to everything from there. Judy H July '23

Worth the price, great tour guide!

Worth every penny. Jan was our guide and he was very friendly and knowledgeable. We saw a great deal in 4 hours. Jan provided details we would not have gotten elsewhere. We are a family of 6 (two teenagers and 8,10 years old). Jan was great at making it interesting for everyone. I would highly recommend this tour operator and guide! Amy_P July '23

Brilliant.

All of it ! Mike our guide was so knowledgeable and we walked a pace that was slow enough but quick enough to keep us both informed . He started by setting the scenario by use of old maps showing how the city had changed. Peter_l July '23

We had a wonderful day.

We had a wonderful day with Maria - she was extremely knowledgeable, and our tour was really interesting and engaging. This was our second tour with Insider Tours and both were excellent. Dana M. July '23

It was excellent.

The smaller group helped my children get more out of the tour. It was absolutely worth the money and time and would highly recommend it for a family. Alison E. July '23

Impressive tour.

Even on a rainy day, this tour lived up to our expectations. Our guide gave a masterful account of the history, people, places and events surrounding the rise and fall of the Third Reich as we strolled throughout Berlin. The personal insights and style of our guide and the impressive details were greatly appreciated. Haulie T. June '23

Excellent again.

Great private tour by insider tour. I hesitate to write this review as so many have written reviews so what can i add? Well, this is the second time i have used the group in the last 4 years. Different tour leaders but both were excellent and that is the point of the review. It is clear that this organization is able to properly train their staff and provide excellent walking tours. We did a combination of WW2 /cold war sites. Highly recommend this group. Captain T. May '23
