  • Head off the beaten track and explore those areas of the city that lie outside of the usual tourist trail.
  • Visit a number of neighbourhoods that showcase the different faces of Berlin.

  • See sights such as the East Side Gallery, Hackesche Höfe and R.A.W. Gelände, plus works by world-famous street artists.

If you want to experience the real Berlin beyond the main sights, this is the tour for you. Led by a knowledgeable local guide, this private experience takes you deep into the city’s hidden layers—secret courtyards, tucked-away backyards, side streets, and creative spaces that most visitors never discover. Whether you choose a 2, 3, 4, 6 or 8-hour tour, your guide will meet you at your hotel and tailor the experience to your interests.

Berlin’s transformation since the fall of the Wall is one of the most fascinating urban stories in Europe. Once described as “poor but sexy,” the city became a magnet for artists, musicians, and creatives, turning abandoned spaces into hubs of culture and expression. On this tour, you’ll see how that spirit still shapes Berlin today—and how it’s evolving.

Wander through neighbourhoods such as Kreuzberg, Friedrichshain, Mitte, and Prenzlauer Berg, each with its own distinct character. Step inside hidden Hinterhöfe (courtyards), explore independent cafés and local markets, and uncover layers of street art—from spontaneous graffiti to large-scale murals by internationally renowned artists like Blu, ROA, Berlin Kidz, and Victor Ash.

Discover creative spaces like R.A.W. Gelände, once an industrial complex and now a centre for alternative culture, and the beautiful Hackesche Höfe, where historic courtyards reveal a different side of Berlin’s past and present. Along the way, your guide will share insights into gentrification, immigration, counterculture, and the ongoing tension between preservation and change.

This is a tour that goes beyond history books—offering a genuine glimpse into how Berliners live, create, and shape their city today.

At the end of your tour, your guide will be happy to recommend local spots to eat, drink, and explore, helping you continue your Berlin experience like a true insider.

Very insightful tour of the city!

A great tour that showed us sides of Berlin we didn’t know yet. Very interesting and insightful. Our guide Gregor was great! He was very knowledgeable and adapted the tour to our needs (we had two young kids with us in our group). Highly recommend it! Nathalie Apr. '25

Really enjoyed our tour of Berlin Today.

Really enjoyed our tour of Berlin Today with guide Jan. Got a great feel for why Berlin is seen as a cosmopolitan and diverse city. Had no difficulties or issues with any aspect of our experience with Insider Tours and would highly recommend the company, the tour and the guide. David F. June '24

Two excellent private tours.

We did two private tours in two days with the wonderful Nickolai. On day one we did the Cold War tour and followed it the next day with the Berlin Today tour. Both were informative and kept two adults and two teenage boys thoroughly engrossed, interested and entertained for the entire time. Nicolai was charming and friendly and of course highly knowledgeable. We hit it off straight away and it certainly helped that we shared many world views and opinions. Highly recommended! Tommy R.
