This is the tour to take if you want to put your finger on the pulse of Berlin in the company of a local guide with plenty of insider knowledge! Whether you opt for a tour format of two, three, four, six or eight hours, our brilliant guide will meet you at your hotel and provide answers to some burning questions about this once run-down and divided city, such as: Just how did Berlin become the capital of cool?

When he was mayor of Berlin, Klaus Wowereit memorably described the city as “poor but sexy”. We explain how the culture shock of unification of previously Communist East Berlin with capitalist West Berlin produced a degree of upheaval that has resulted in a diverse, vibrant and exciting new German capital.

If you are looking to get a real sense of the city today, then join us on a unique tour that will introduce you to various districts of Berlin, each with its own unique personality. You will be able to get up close and personal with a city where gentrification is rife, alternative culture is thriving, immigration and assimilation are adding diversity, and the urban landscape is endlessly transforming.

Potential areas to discover on this tour include the districts of Kreuzberg, Mitte, Friedrichshain and Prenzlauer Berg. Sights you might opt to see are the East Side Gallery, R.A.W. Gelände, the courtyards of Hackescher Markt, and multiple murals by international graffiti and street artists such as Blu, Berlin Kidz, ROA and Victor Ash.

At the end of your tour, your Insider guide will happily point you in the direction of your next destination or advise you on how to make the most of your time in Berlin.

Insider Reviews

Very insightful tour of the city!

A great tour that showed us sides of Berlin we didn’t know yet. Very interesting and insightful. Our guide Gregor was great! He was very knowledgeable and adapted the tour to our needs (we had two young kids with us in our group). Highly recommend it! Nathalie Apr. '23

Really enjoyed our tour of Berlin Today with guide Jan. Got a great feel for why Berlin is seen as a cosmopolitan and diverse city. Had no difficulties or issues with any aspect of our experience with Insider Tours and would highly recommend the company, the tour and the guide. David F. June '23

Two excellent private tours.

We did two private tours in two days with the wonderful Nickolai. On day one we did the Cold War tour and followed it the next day with the Berlin Today tour. Both were informative and kept two adults and two teenage boys thoroughly engrossed, interested and entertained for the entire time. Nicolai was charming and friendly and of course highly knowledgeable. We hit it off straight away and it certainly helped that we shared many world views and opinions. Highly recommended! Tommy R.
